Esports tournament organizer PGL announced Thursday that their last Major of DOTA Pro Circuit 2021-2022 will be held in Arlington, Texas. The Major is the first to be held “on American soil” since the 2016 Boston Major.

Hosting the event will be Esports Stadium Arlington, North America’s largest dedicated esports facility. A total of 18 teams will be competing for a $500.000 worth of prize pool from August 4-14. The winners of the competition will be entitled to an entry to The International.

Announcement

PGL announced the hosting of the event on their website.

“We are excited to announce that PGL will organize the last Major of DOTA Pro Circuit 2021-2022 in Arlington, Texas,” PGL said in a statement released yesterday.

“The largest dedicated esports facility in North America, Esports Stadium Arlington, will be the battlefield where the best 18 teams in the world will fight for the $500.000 prize pool and their last chance to earn points to qualify to The International, the jewel in the crown of the DOTA 2 season.”

The tournament will be in the LAN format and the prize distribution of the tournament is as follows: The winner, with 600 points received throughout the competition will bag home $200,000; the runner up, with 550 points, will be entitled to a $100,000 prize, the second runner up, with 500 points, will be awarded $75,000; the fourth winner, with 450 points, will have $50,000; the fifth and sixth, with 400 points, will receive $25,000; the seventh and eighth, with 300 points, will receive $12,500; and the rest will receive $0.

According to the release, fans will be allowed into the venue, saying:

“We are delighted to announce that the spectators will be allowed to the arena, so every DOTA 2 fan will have the chance to witness another Major in North America after over five years. The Boston Major took place in December 2016 inside Wang Theater, and PGL produced it.”

Commenting on the announcement, PGL CEO Silviu Stroie said:

“DOTA 2 has a lot of fans in the US, and Arlington has a perfect location for tournaments of this caliber: Esports Stadium. We are fortunate to be back in North America with another Major after Boston,” Stroie noted.

“We love to run events in the USA, and we have wonderful memories from 2016: it was a great tournament, and the fans were fantastic. Having a tremendous tournament with DOTA 2 enthusiasts in the stands after a long time will be great!”

More details surrounding the major are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. The last major Dota 2 event was The International 2021, which was held in Bucharest. Hosting the competition were PGL and Valve.

Recently, PGL also announced the hosting of the first CS:GO Major tournament in the year 2022. It is expected to take place from May 19-22 at the Antwerps Sportpaleis in Belgium. The major is considerably bigger than the Dota 2 major discussed above with a total prize pool of $1m.
