Activision releases Warzone 2.0 gameplay mechanics, more details
Fans of the Call of Duty franchise are awaiting the release of two new installments of the series, COD: Modern Warfare 2 and the free-to-play battle royal shooter Warzone 2.0. It was recently revealed in COD: Next that Warzone 2.0, which will be released on November 16, would feature a brand new map, gameplay mechanics, and DMZ mode.
The introduction of Warzone 2.0 brought a set of innovations in terms of gameplay mechanics and other new updates. These include new modes of transportation, swimming mechanics, enhanced buy stations, the yet-to-be-revealed sandbox experience of DMZ, and many more.
Innovations in Warzone 2.0
Warzone 2.0 will no longer take place in its prequel’s major fictional city of Verdansk. Instead, the upcoming BR title will take players to Al Mazrah, a map littered with sprawling cities and other interest points in the desert.
Warzone 2.0 will still feature Warzone’s renowned Gulag but now with a few fresh takes. Instead of 1v1, Gulag is now a 2v2 matchup. The objective of the notorious location remains the same, to earn a respawn ticket by defeating enemy players. However, in Warzone 2.0, Gulag has its own warden called the Jailer, whose keys can be used by players to escape.
As cited above, the new Warzone will offer new modes of transportation. Other than swimming, there will be “over a dozen unique vehicles,” and fuel systems will now play a significant part in traversing across the map with a vehicle. Players may capture gas stations, look for gas canisters and refill their vehicles.
Buy stations remain the center of Warzone 2.0. Similar to its prequel, they can be used to buy back downed teammates and purchase killstreaks, loadouts and other items. In the new game, players may also sell loot for cash.
New circle collapses also have been added to Warzone 2.0. Players may expect weather anomalies as opposed to the traditional poisonous gas collapse.
AI combatants and Strongholds will be making their way into Warzone 2.0. Strongholds are scattered across Al Mazrah and hold valuable loot. These places are guarded by AI combatants, ready to put up a fight for any players who come closer.
Next on the list is DMZ. There is not much known about the mode aside from the developer team saying it would be a “special extraction mode” in the game. DMZ will be released alongside the base game this November.
“The most closely-guarded, leak-proof secret in Call of Duty history can finally be revealed; there is a special ‘extraction mode’ coming to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. Known as DMZ, this is a passion project for the teams at Infinity Ward and across the contributing studios,” the team wrote.
“And the main premise is about choosing your own experience within the warzone, working socially if you wish, and collecting gear to keep in your Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 inventory and utilize from match to match.”
Warzone 2.0 is set to be released as part of COD: MW 2’s Season One.
